Saudis refuse to send foreign assistance

RIYADH, Al Jazeera (15:40) --

In response to a request by the Lebanese Cabinet, King Abdullah of the House of Saud has made public he has no intention to commit Saudi troops to a stabilisation mission in what is fast turning into a quagmire in Lebanon.

He supports a UN Security Council-endorsed resolution to the problem.

Syria has gone public with its offer, long rumoured to have been made in secret, of providing "whatever assistance is necessary" to the Lebanese.
